how to recycle

WHAT

RECYCLE

PLASTIC?

Basically plastic recycling consists of 3 phases:

To

  • Pull apart.
  • Crush.
  • Melt.

  • PULL APART

Due to the great variety and type of plastic materials, it is necessary to separate them by type, since each type requires a different treatment.

In the drop-down menu you can see the different types of plastic according to the international recycling symbol, , with a number inside (from 1 to 7), thus specifying the type to which it belongs.

This task of collecting and separating is very important for subsequent processes.

We recommend not only separating by type of plastic, but also, whenever possible, by color type, to achieve a better appearance in the final product.

If it is not possible to segregate the types of plastics before chopping them, we can separate them once chopped through different buoyancy processes in different liquids, but it will take more time and effort.

  • CRUSH

Once grouped by type, the next step is to shred the plastic to turn it into small chips (granules).

In addition to reducing the volume of storage, it is essential to shred plastic waste to be able to melt it later. The optimal size of the pellets depends on many factors (finishes, type of plastic, casting process, chopping time, etc...), so feel free to experiment until you get a size that suits your needs.

Precious Plastic, indicates a 6 mm pitch mesh for the V2.1 chopper.

Precious Plástic, puts at our disposal several models of mincers in open source, this means that you can download the technical documentation (plans, specifications, etc...) and manufacture it yourself. However, in the bazaar, you can buy the elements that are not available or even entire machines.

Basically Precious Plastic, has two designs of choppers;

*) Shredder V2.1 . Basic machine for shredding. Low cost and relatively easy to assemble and handle. Logically, it has limitations in terms of production, traffic jams, etc... If you want to start in the world of recycling without having to make a significant investment, perhaps this is your model.

*) Shredder V4 . More advanced crushing machine. In this model, the previous version is significantly improved, being a much more compact machine, more resistant and with much better features. Logically the cost is much higher than the previous version.

We invite you to visit the Precious Plastic website to decide which model best suits your needs.

  • Melt

The granules obtained in the previous process can be melted to give it the desired shape.

For example, we can obtain thread for 3D printers, or certain products (plates, flowerpots, etc.) using molds.

To do this, Precious Plastic has several open source machine models;

  • Injector. Several versions, depending on the features.
  • extruder As is the case with the mincer and the injector, Plastic Prices, has several versions.
  • SheetPress (Compressor). Perfect for obtaining sheets.

These machines have heating temperature controls, to be able to adjust to the specific type of plastic that we want to melt.

The Precious Plastic Bazaar

Precious Plastic has a place for buying and selling, where you can find almost everything related to plastic recycling. From different types of plastic already chopped and selected, to machine components, final products (glasses, coasters, planters, 3D thread, furniture, etc...).

The operations are carried out between the members of the community, and 5% of said operations are destined to defray the expenses of Precious Plastic.

To help you in the fight against plastic, was born Precious Plastic

What is it Precious Plastic ?

Precious Plastic, is a global initiative, promoted by Dave Hakkens, which pursues the recycling of plastic waste, reducing the pollution generated by said waste.

To this end, Precious Plastic has a network of collaborators and/or friends distributed throughout the planet, who carry out different activities. In the following link, you can find the nearest Precious Plastic Point:

What can I do with recycled plastic?

Once crushed, you can melt it down and "manufacture" countless items, to give that plastic a second life, which otherwise would surely end up in a landfill or, in the worst case, in the sea.

You can make everything from small keyrings, cups, phone cases, etc... to chairs, building blocks, etc...

Your imagination will be your limit....
