About us

How to recycle plastic

Plastic recycling consists of 3 steps:

Due to the wide variety of plastics, it is essential to classify them by type, as each requires specific treatment.

In the drop-down menu, you can consult the different types of plastic according to the international recycling symbol ♻, identified with a number from 1 to 7 that indicates its classification.

This stage of collection and separation is key to the success of subsequent processes.

We also recommend separating by colour whenever possible, as this significantly improves the appearance of the final product.

If classification cannot be achieved before shredding, it can be done afterwards using flotation processes in liquids with different densities, although this requires more time and effort.

Once the plastic has been classified, it is shredded into pellets (small chips). This reduces the volume and allows it to be melted down. The ideal pellet size varies depending on the type of plastic and the process, so it is recommended that you adjust it according to your requirements.

Precious Plastic Capi Spain recommends using a 6 mm sieve for the Shredder V2.1 and offers open-source shredder designs. You can make them yourself (DIY) by ordering the parts or purchase complete machines.

Available shredder designs:

🔹 Shredder V2.1

A basic and affordable model, perfect for getting started in recycling without a large initial investment. It is relatively easy to assemble and use, although it has limitations in terms of production capacity.

🔹 Shredder V3.3

A more robust and efficient version than the V2.1, with improved performance and greater durability. Perfect for more ambitious recycling projects with a larger workload.

🔹 Shredder V4

The most advanced machine of all. Compact, robust and with superior capability. It requires a significant investment, but offers professional and optimal performance for large-scale operations.

The pellets obtained after shredding can be melted down to give them a new shape and a new life.

It can be used to create threads for 3D printers, products such as plates, flower pots, etc., or other objects using molds.
